In October 2020 we had a small workshop about pixel fonts, supervised by the master design student Pia Keeling and dutch type designer Luc(as) de Groot. I created a handwriting font with fine details and another one with less detail. I scribbled some forms on normal paper before digitizing them in ‘Adobe Illustrator’ and repaint them with the pixel-tool in ‘Glyphs’. With this tool I was able to easily draw pixel-forms the same way I would do with a normal pen.
Sketching with pixel was a complete different experience, but a fun one. Ink Traps for Pixel Fonts is a pretty unique but interesting design idea when you think about the actual use of ink traps in the past. Besides that I used small cuts (e.g. Letter ‘l’) to create the vision of the 3D letter.
